Veterinarian, Practice Owner
Dr. Dax was born and raised in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. His love for animals has been present since he was a young boy. He would often show up at home with animals and ask his parents, “Can I keep it”? During high school he started working at the vet clinic in his town and quickly learned without a doubt that he wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Dr. Dax studied zoology at Southeast Missouri State University and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from St George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine. During summer breaks, Dax worked on ranches in Colorado and Wyoming leading trail rides. Since graduation from vet school in 2007, Dr. Dax worked in Grenada West Indies, Salem OR, and Gresham OR before purchasing Birch Street Animal Clinic in 2011. When he’s not busy being a doctor and running his own business, Dr. Dax enjoys hiking, backpacking, and traveling with his mini Australian Shepherd, Rivers. Dax also adopted a cute little calico cat who he named Thumbelina, because she’s a polydactyl with extra toes..
Dr. Jarret grew up in the San Joaquin Valley of California and Roseburg, Oregon. His career in veterinary medicine started as a teenager at a local vet clinic. Over his last 25 years in practice, Dr. Jarret has worked every position in the veterinary practice, which contributed to his vast amount of experience in the field. Dr. Jarret earned his Bachelors in Animal Science from Oregon State University and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from St George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine. When Dr. Dax purchased the practice in 2011, Dr. Jarret was eager to join his classmate and friend in turning Birch Street Animal Clinic into the establishment it is today. Dr. Jarret has enjoyed employment in a variety of areas in veterinary medicine, including mixed animal, teaching hospitals, and shelter medicine, but is happy to now focus on private practice small animal medicine and surgery. Dr. Jarret enjoys spending time with his parents and their animal family which includes: Five Australian Shepherds (Maya, Nala, Journey, Nutmeg, and Hazel), two cats (Libby and Peekaboo), five llamas, and some chickens. Dr. Jarret’s enjoys gardening, hiking, camping, backpacking, and whitewater rafting.
Certified Veterinary Technician, Assistant Practice Manager
Hana grew up nearby in Aurora, Oregon and graduated with honors from Canby High School. Hana earned her degree in veterinary technology from Portland Community College and has been a licensed CVT since 2017. Her professional interests include small animal medicine/surgery, emergency medicine, and practice management. She owns a goofy 3-year-old Golden Retriever named Piper, and a 17 year old Paint mare named Fresca. In her free time, Hana enjoys traveling, hiking, backpacking, cycling, and horseback riding.
Born and raised in the Canby community, Patricia’s first experience in veterinary medicine was through a job shadow at Birch Street while attending Canby High School. She then completed an internship with the clinic and after graduation, the practice was excited to hire her full time. Patricia loves caring for her family, both two-legged and four-legged! Her young daughter is a never-ending source of joy and entertainment in the family. Sunny days are best spent together at a local park or out for a walk. Her four-legged children include her dog Carmella, and her two adopted cats Sonny and Gypsy.
Cindy received her Bachelors in Animal Science at Oregon State University and completed Veterinary Assistant training at Linn-Benton Community College. Cindy has been a part of veterinary medicine for over 15 years and has the knowledge and experience to prove it! Her favorite part about working in veterinary medicine is making valuable connections with so many great animals and their owners. She loves being able to answer questions and guide pet parents in providing the best care possible for their pet. Cindy has a small, goofy family full of love, laughter, and pet hair. Her family includes her husband, their Shih Tzus Samson and Gertrude, and their cats Munchkin, Cotton, and Apollo.
Shaina’s roots in the local community go back many generations, so she is ecstatic to be able to provide quality pet care to the same community she was raised in. Shaina loves her job working with animals and values the positive relationships that develop with clients and co-workers. It shows by the smile that’s always on her face! Shaina enjoys hiking with her husband and their dogs Sydney, Luna, and Theo. She loves paddle boarding, fishing, and anything else that involves water! On a warm summer evening you’ll likely find Shaina at a local park playing disc golf, or in her yard nurturing her beautiful garden. Shaina’s house is run by their three felines, Sadie, Man Goose, and Mimi.
Emily is a native Oregonian with family history in the local area. Although currently a Salem resident, she is looking for an opportunity to start a small homestead in the Canby community. Emily’s professionalism, compassion, calm demeanor, and near decade of veterinary experience have proven her a wonderful addition to our CSR (Customer Service Representative) team. Emily loves getting to personally know each of our fur patients and their families. She also values working with a team of people who share the same love for animals. Emily is married with three children, one grandchild, four dogs, four cats, seven chickens, and one horse. She enjoys camping, hiking, disc golf, horseback riding, ghost hunting, and spending time with family and friends.
